Hay ther my name is Paul. I have a 1988 GTA turbo that does not sound correct on tick over or under load. it sounds like it has a blown exhaust, well thats the only way i can describe the noise. but it is defintly not as simple as that. as i have a strait single tube pipe that goes st8 from my turbo out the back. It also has no pull in 1st or 2nd gear. I have changed injectors, plugs, leads, cap, coil and i have also done the tapits. I am at a loss now. the car feels lk it hass about 150 bhp not 200 or i probly have the only GTA V5 turbo LOL well thats what it feels like. I need help does any one have any ideas? Thank You Paul [/b] _________________ Alpine GTA |

Boost leak or blown turbo perhaps .Check all your pipework and also the actuator . _________________

Pull 1 lead off each pot at a time and they you can find out if it is related to just 1 pot. Engine will be poor if you are on only 5. Actually, it will still run if 2 leads are swapped and it is firing on 4, I know cos I did it once, Doh!!!

| It sounds like your actuator arm has come off the waste gate |

Paul, as Martin suggests I would check for leaks on the exhaust manifolds up to the divider under the turbo and the base of the turbo. A leak down stream of the turbo pre silencer isn't going to hurt performance. Pre-turbo it will upset the fueling with the change in back-pressure. If it sounds that loud you will be able to feel it blowing at idle, but start with a cold system and do it quickly - run your hands close up round the manifolds each side, you will feel a leak. If the joints in the tubes have been disturbed for any reason, it can be a pain to get them to seat and seal. If the turbo internal wastegate isn't closing with the actuator, it will usually clatter as it bangs around if the actuator rod has fallen off, or if staying open for some reason through mal-adjustment (very unlikely, further it won't make the thing sound like a tractor), then it will be very sluggish getting up to power, but will eventually get there, and then will take off if the wastegate isn't opening up further under some degree of control as she will then over-boost. Sounds like your having fun though!
Happy hunting _________________ ... A diamond is only a piece of coal that did well under pressure... PRV afflicted, may be I need to squeeze harder!!!! |

what replacement injectors are you using are they new / refurb? Have you made sure you have spark on all 6 as well, just asking, I'm sure you probably have? Check yr new cap is making good contact with the rotor arm - centre carbon, and the rotor arm is good, not breaking down. If all sound you don't have much else left... check your vac hoses as Lee mentions this can be quite important, and that they are connected in the right places, as there are some valved lines as well. Think you can still get the manual online from here somewhere, JohnC will post the relevant pages on here for you if not _________________ ...
